Commanding Officer’s Log

Over the past week, several members of the crew who participated in the Lethe mission, including myself the last few days, have been experiencing persistent insomnia. Doctor Vaaet has been monitoring the affected officers closely. Given the nature of the telepathic encounter on Lethe, I suspect there may be lingering neurological or psychological aftereffects. Despite the sleeplessness, the officers continue to perform their duties with professionalism, though I have urged each to report any signs of fatigue or emotional strain to Medical.

On a more positive note, Lieutenant (junior grade) Elena Alessa has been promoted to full Lieutenant. Her commitment to the crew’s well-being, particularly in the aftermath of Lethe, has been exemplary. Her insight, empathy, and calm under pressure have made a tangible difference aboard this station. The promotion is well-earned, and I was pleased to deliver the news personally.

I have also heard rumors circulating through the station about Niska, of The Ferryman on the Promenade, having created a new beverage she calls “Orion Repose”. Several officers have mentioned it in passing. Apparently, it is both striking in color and unexpectedly calming. If the reports are true, perhaps it may serve as a welcome reprieve for those struggling with sleepless nights.

Finally, Lieutenant (junior grade) Lyras has been placed under medical quarantine following an examination due to concerning after effects of the Lethe mission. For the moment, Doctor Vaaet and I agree that the details are best kept private. I will record a separate, private log with the full account once more information is confirmed.

For now, life aboard Deep Space 21 continues. Steady, but under the shadow of what we brought back from Lethe. Sleep remains elusive, but perhaps that is the price of curiosity on the frontier.
